Fees for Services

  • Telephone Intake:

    FREE 15 minute telephone consult with Dr. Friesen to discuss your current concerns and services that could be helpful to you.

  • Psychotherapy (In-person or virtual available):

    First session: $225 for 90 minutes (includes an assessment to determine current concerns, discuss treatment recommendations, and create a treatment plan)

    Following sessions: $225 per 50 minutes session

    Payment for psychotherapy is due at the beginning of each session and can be made by cash, e-transfer, cheque, Visa, and Mastercard. A receipt will be given for all payments received.

  • Assessment:

    Please call Dr. Friesen to confirm the fee schedule for assessments. Fees for assessments depend on the referral question and amount of testing necessary. Please note that report writing, letter writing, form completion, and similar services are billed at $225/hour (pro-rateable).

  • Consultation Services:

    Dr. Friesen offers consultation to other mental health and medical professionals and the general public on topics of mental health and health psychology. Please contact Dr. Friesen for more information about these services and associated fees.

Please note that the fees for services are based on the education and experience of the professional and the services provided. See the recommended fee schedule on the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta website.


Insurance

Many insurance plans provide some coverage for psychological services. Please contact your insurance provider for information about your plan in terms of psychological services. Dr. Friesen will provide detailed receipts that can be submitted to your insurance company to claim your reimbursement where available by your insurance provider.

Please note that psychological services offered by a registered psychologist are considered health care expenses and are tax deductible.


Cancellation Policy

Dr. Friesen understands that unexpected things can happen in life. Please provide Dr. Friesen with at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a session. Any session cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged at the regular hourly rate.


Dr. Friesen does not provide an emergency or crisis response service.

If you are feeling suicidal or in a crisis please seek help immediately:

  • Call the emergency services on 911 (Ambulance/Police/Fire Service).
  • Or, go to your local hospital emergency department

Confidentiality

All information gathered during intake, assessment, and therapy sessions are considered to be confidential. Both verbal information and written records about a client cannot be shared with another party without the written consent of the client. Dr. Friesen is also required to comply with provincial and federal privacy legislation in the collection and retention of your personal information.

Please note there are some important exceptions to confidentiality and/or privacy, as noted below:

  1. Suicide or homicide (Duty to Warn and Protect): If you disclose the intent or a plan to harm another person, Dr. Friesen is required to warn the intended victim and report this information to legal authorities. In cases in which you disclose or imply a plan for suicide, Dr. Friesen is required to notify legal authorities and make reasonable attempts to ensure your safety.

  2. Abuse (of Children or Vulnerable Adults): If you state that you have recently, are presently, or are in danger of abusing a child or vulnerable adult, Dr. Friesen is required to report this information to Child Protective Services and/or the Police.

  3. Legal Matters within the Justice System: If you are in trouble with the law or have matters involving potential litigation Dr. Friesen may be served with a Court Order to appear as a fact or expert witness or to release your records to the Courts or their representatives.

  4. Subpoena of your file: If Dr. Friesen receives a Court document such as a subpoena, Dr. Friesen is required to release your records as indicated.

  5. Information required by a coroner or medical examiner: If contacted by a coroner or medical examiner, Dr. Friesen is required to provide necessary information.

Dr. Friesen will discuss confidentiality with you during your initial session.
