Dr. Lindsay Friesen is a registered clinical psychologist, with an M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Regina. In addition to having a private practice, Dr. Friesen works as a clinical psychologist with Alberta Health Services. During her clinical training, Dr. Friesen received extensive experience in both Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology. She offers both individual and group treatment to adults of all ages.

Dr. Friesen specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of:

  • Anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, health anxiety, specific phobias)
  • Mood disorders
  • Women’s health issues (e.g., anxiety during pregnancy, post- partum anxiety and depression, managing issues regarding gynecological concerns)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Mental health concerns related to chronic or acute medical problems (e.g., chronic pain, fibromyalgia)

Dr. Friesen also has experience with the assessment and treatment of:

  • Personality-related problems
  • Stress
  • Difficulty in managing and expressing emotions
  • Weight management
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Grief and loss
  • Communication issues (e.g., assertiveness, anger management)
  • Relationship problems
  • Self-esteem

Dr. Friesen’s clinical practice focuses on providing effective and evidence-based cognitive behaviour therapy. In addition, Dr. Friesen integrates strategies from mindfulness, self-compassion, motivational interviewing, acceptance-based therapy, cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, interpersonal, client-centered, and solution focused therapy when appropriate.

Dr. Friesen has experience training future Clinical Psychologists. She has supervised several Clinical Psychology Master’s and Doctoral students. In addition, she has supervised doctoral level residents in their final year of training. She has been actively involved in research, publishing journal articles and presenting at professional conferences across North America. Dr. Friesen is a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Canadian Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies.
